7-20-06 (AP) Madison, Wis. Drivers on Interstate 94 next week should pack plenty of patience.
The State Patrol says a semi-truck carrying an industrial dryer across the state could slow traffic on I-94 Monday.
The load is 201 feet long, 16 feet wide and more than 14 feet high. It weighs in at 458,000 pounds, or nearly 230 tons, said State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Clark. Most semis have a maximum weight of 80,000 pounds, or 40 tons, he said.
The vehicle, which has 94 wheels and gets 2 miles to the gallon, is so heavy it will have to slow to 5 mph at some bridges and overpasses.
It’s scheduled to leave suburban Milwaukee before 7 a.m. Monday and stop at a rest area in Black River Falls.
The truck will resume its route at 10 p.m. Monday and is expected to reach Hudson by 6 a.m. Tuesday and continue on into Minnesota.
It’s due to deliver the dryer at an ethanol plant in Richardton, N.D., on Friday, said Shelley Latham, a dispatcher with Perkins Specialized Transportation Contracting. The Northfield, Minn., company is handling the move.
The State Patrol will escort the truck until it reaches the Minnesota border, Clark said.
